How to care for your piercings
To ensure your piercings heal properly, you’ll need to give them some love and care along the way. The healing time will depend on your piercing placement, age, and overall health, but here are our top tips for a smooth aftercare process.

HEALING TIMES
EAR LOBE:Initial: 6-8 WeeksFull: 4-6 MonthsEAR MIDI/HELIX/CARTILAGE:Initial: 6-8 WeeksFull: 4-6 MonthsNOSTRIL:Initial: 6-8 WeeksFull: 6-12 MonthsAfter the initial healing period, the original piercing stud/s can be removed, and other post-type jewellery may be worn. For the first 6 months, do not go longer than 24 hours without earrings and/or nose studs to prevent the hole from closing.
PIERCING AFTERCARE ADVICE
HOW TO CLEAN YOUR PIERCING:
Always wash your hands thoroughly before touching your piercings.
CLEANSE the front and back of the pierced area 2-3 times daily using a cotton swab or ball soaked in Lovisa Piercing Care Solution. Continue this cleaning routine until your piercing is fully healed.
ROTATE the piercing studs 2-3 times daily while cleansing. This helps prevent the earrings from sticking to the ear or nose.
DO NOT REMOVE THE STUDS WHILE CLEANSING OR TURNING THEM.
PIERCING AFTERCARE ADVICE:
DO NOT remove your jewellery during the healing process; it will begin to close immediately. Keep original jewellery in for the recommended healing time.
DO NOT use non-piercing-specific treatments like Dettol, alcohol-based solutions, peroxides, disinfectants, soaps, or tea tree oil on or around the piercing/s.
DO NOT push the 'butterfly' along the stud post closer to the ear. The 'butterfly' must always be positioned at the back of the post. After cleansing, CHECK that the earring back is secure and in the correct position. The backing should never be pushed tightly against the ear.
Always keep your piercings CLEAN and DRY. Clean your piercing immediately after swimming or exercising with our Lovisa Piercing Care Solution. We recommend avoiding swimming for the first 24 hours after getting your piercing.
AVOID irritating your piercing with products like hairspray, shampoo, soap, sunscreen, perfume and other cosmetics. After using any of these, clean your piercing with Lovisa Piercing Care Solution.
TAKE CARE when removing clothing over your head or brushing your hair, as earrings and nose studs can get caught. Tie your hair up and use clips and bands to keep it away from the piercings.
AVOID sleeping on your new piercing. You can use an ear pillow to keep your ear suspended while you sleep.
AFTER THE HEALING PERIOD:
After the initial healing period, you can replace the original piercing stud(s) with other jewellery.
We recommend post-type jewellery made from surgical steel, 24ct gold plated, titanium, carat gold, or sterling silver.
For the first six months, wear earrings or nose studs every day. Do not leave earrings or nose studs out for longer than 24 hours to prevent the holes from closing.
